In these times of decreased funding and tightening school budgets, SHEF's goal is to provide teachers with a way to supplement current curriculum with new equipment and materials that would otherwise be beyond the school district's budget.\r\n
Thanks to the generosity of our district families, teachers, staff, local residents and businesses, SHEF awarded over $562,000 in grants since our inception in 2006. This past school year alone, SHEF awarded $94,000 in grants to teachers and a large technology grant to fund three mobile tablet labs, located at Hilda Walker and Summit Hill Jr. High, a project that will benefit all of the Summit Hill District 161 students.
The Summit Hill Educational Foundation, otherwise known as "SHEF," is a not-for-profit organization established in 2006 for the Summit Hill School District 161, serving grades Pre-K through 8th grade in the communities of Tinley Park, Frankfort, and Mokena, IL. We are comprised of district parents, teacher liaisons, and administrative representatives from the district and school board. Our mission is to creatively generate financial support to enrich and enhance the opportunities and educational experiences of Summit Hill School District 161 students.
This year our goal continues to be bringing technological enhancement into every classroom. Better technology is essential for our children to succeed in the new and extremely rigorous education standard called Common Core. Adopted by the State of Illinois, as well as most other states, the new Common Core will bring cohesiveness to the education program all over the United States and better prepare students for success throughout college and the workplace in a competitive global economy. Technology integration is critical in teaching applied learning skills that are necessary for the comprehensive nature of Common Core.
Due to difficulties with school budgets and state funding issues, this can be fully funded through charitable donations from local community organizations such as yours. Please note that 100% of your donation will go toward technology improvements. Thank you in advance for considering our request to help our neighborhood schools. The teachers and students will greatly benefit from your generosity.
